Loose Leaf Teas & Tisanes
Types of Tea: A Beginner's Guide
Did you know that black, green, white, and oolong tea all come from the same plant? Every cup of true tea originates from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. The key difference between these popular tea types is how the leaves are processed after harvesting. This processing, which includes steps like oxidation, creates the unique flavors, aromas, and colors we know and love.
Exploring the world of loose-leaf tea opens up a treasure chest of flavors. Whether you're a seasoned tea lover or new to brewing, there’s always a new variety to discover.
We've categorized our teas by type, with options for both pure and flavored teas.
What is Tisane (Herbal Tea)?
You might know them as herbal teas, but the French have a specific word for them: "tisane." This term distinguishes caffeine-free herbal infusions from traditional teas (like black or green tea), which naturally contain caffeine.
Tisanes are made from a blend of herbs, spices, fruits, and flowers, offering a soothing and calming beverage perfect for any time of day. They are a wonderful way to unwind or enjoy a quiet moment. If you're looking for a caffeine-free alternative to traditional tea, tisanes provide serenity in a cup.

What is Yerba Mate?
Yerba mate (pronounced yer-bah ma-tay) is a traditional South American beverage made from the leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis plant, a species of holly. The leaves are steeped in hot water to create a stimulating drink called maté. It can also be brewed cold to make tereré.
The tradition of drinking yerba mate began with the Indigenous Guarani people, who have used the plant for its natural energy-boosting effects for thousands of years. The practice later spread to other Indigenous groups and was adopted by settlers in the 17th century.
Today, yerba mate is a cultural cornerstone in countries like Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It is often shared among friends from a single gourd, a tradition that symbolizes community and connection. Thanks to its unique flavor and health benefits, yerba mate is now enjoyed by people all over the world.
